“Sparrow” is the B-side of Mary Hopkin’s second single, “Goodbye“. The song was written by Benny Gallagher and Graham Lyle, songwriters signed to Apple Publishing ; and was produced by Paul McCartney. “Sparrow” was lovely, because that’s when my friendship with [songwriters] Benny Gallagher and Graham Lyle started. The individuals aboard The Sparrow, an asteroid converted to fly at near-light-speed, are a mix of Jesuits and Sandoz’s agnostic or unbelieving friends. Through brief descriptions, exposition, and dialogue, Russell manages to create a handful of living, breathing, and truly likeable characters.

White-throated sparrow. Abundant and familiar, the white-throat is easy to identify by its snowy bib. Until I spent some time in New England, I couldn’t figure out why people spell out the song Old Sam Peabody-Peabody-Peabody. Turns out the name is pronounced “Peabiddy” there—just as the sparrow says. White-crowned sparrow.

He has had twenty-one books published which have had worldwide sales and been. I love The Sparrow. As a Le Guin-style anthropological piece, it's fascinating. As an exploration of religious themes, it's up there with Hyperion and The Book Of The New Sun. It's also an incredibly affecting work, as powerful as Flowers For Algernon or I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream.

The big problem with the novel is that the science is explicitly lousy. Review posted on A few months ago I stumbled upon the book Sparrow by Sarah Moon. I was not that sure whether I wanted to read it, but decided to give it a go.

On the other hand, Circe by Madeline Miller has been on my tBR for more than a year. Two totally different books, but I will bring them together in this mini-reviews post/5.
